Information

Daily water intake is a good indicator of the health of a flock.  Keep a record of daily drinking water and check feed intake.  A sudden change in water intake is an important sign.

If the amount of drinking water increases, the first thing to check is whether the drinking water system leaks, water pressure, room temperature and salt content in the feed.  If these factors can be ruled out, the health of the flock (disease, immune response) should be checked.  It is also necessary to test whether the increase in water intake occurred after feeding and whether it was due to a change in feeding stage or feed.  The composition of feed can affect the amount of water consumed.

When drinking water volume increases, ventilation needs to be strengthened.  Increased drinking water can cause problems for densely housed chicken houses, which can be addressed by lowering the density.

If they drink too little, the chickens are depressed.  At this time, first check whether the drinking water system is normal, water pressure can not be too low, otherwise there will be dripping.  The water pressure in the waterline should not be too high, because if the water pressure is too high, the chicken will have to peck at the nipple drinker to get the water, which will reduce the drinking volume.

For chicks, turn down the water pressure so the chicks can see the droplets so they can easily find the nipple drinker.  Then increase the water pressure to prevent leakage and wet pad material.  But too much pressure can cause water to splash.

One of the reasons chicks don't drink enough water is because the teats are too high or too low.  Adjust the height to see if it affects the amount of water you drink.  The proper height of the nipple drinker is directly above the chicken's head, so that water flows into the chicken's mouth as it drinks.  You can adjust to the best height by raising or lowering the drinking nipple.  The water given to the flock should be clean and odor-free, free of any harmful substances or impurities.

For drug administration and vaccine immunization, water should be used as the solvent. When drinking water for immunization, it is necessary to ensure normal operation of water line, clean water in water line, low temperature, and ph (QH) of water will affect the solubility and effect of drugs, so water line should be washed before medication.  Thoroughly clean the waterline again after medication to prevent drug residue.  Adding antibiotics or other drugs to the water can create a bitter taste and reduce the water intake of the flock.

A thorough cleaning of the waterline also prevents deposition of dirt and reduces fungal growth.  If you suspect that your drinking water is contaminated, sample it. When checking the temperature and quality of the water, take samples at both ends of the pipe, because many times you will find that the water at the end of the pipe is not very good.  At this time with aquaculture special waterline cleaning machine can be a good solution to this kind of problem.  It is easier to keep the waterline clean by washing it regularly.
